Car versus Bird

There's one less bird in the world because of me.

On my way home from work I was driving along River Valley Road when a cute little pigeon(?), I think it was a pigeon, walked out in front of my car. There was too much traffic to swerve and I was going too fast to stop. The bird looked up at me and the next thing I knew it was under my car. I felt an actual thump. It was awful. I looked in my rear view mirror and I could see it flapping and injured and dying, but not dead. Poor little bird. I wanted to pull over and grab it and take it to the nearest veterinary clinic but there was too much traffic and several cars after me also ran it over. I hope it died quickly with little pain. I cried for that little bird. I cried so much that I had to pull over and take a few minutes to calm down before I felt ready to drive again.

I'm so, so, so, sorry little bird. I hope you had a happy life for as long as you were alive.

By one less bird, you mean one less VERMIN OF THE SKY. Feel no pain, Leah. Pigeons suck.

But if you had happened to pick it up, it could have been dinner!

Ingredients :

6 x Pigeons giblets removed, and reserved
2 oz Bacon or salt pork
3 1/2 tbl Butter
Salt to taste
Chicken broth
Kitchen Bouquet
Chopped fresh parsley
3 tbl Flour
1 tbl Red-currant jelly
1/2 cup Heavy cream

Method :

* Truss birds and wrap breasts with bacon or salt pork. Brown birds and giblets in butter. Add a dash of salt, enough chicken broth to cover bottom of skillet, and enough Kitchen Bouquet to color lightly. Cover and simmer gently for about 1 hour, or until tender, adding more broth if necessary to prevent drying. Remove birds and keep warm; sprinkle birds with parsley. Measure cooking liquid and add enough more broth to make 2 cups; bring to a boil. Mix flour with a small amount of water until smooth, then add to boiling liquid and cook, stirring, until thickened. Add jelly and melt over low heat. Strain juices, discarding giblets. Add cream, adjust seasoning, and reheat to serving temperature.
* This recipe yields 6 servings.

oh man. this is why we get along SO well leah. on route to an appt. recently i saw a squirrel on the ave. that had been hit but not killed, it really bothered me and i got all upset, crying and feeling kind of sick to my stomach..for the WHOLE DAY.... i didn't even hit the little guy?! then, on my way back to work i purposely didn't want to go back that way because i didn't want to see him smooshed or still suffering, but ended up having to go that same way back due to an accident on the adjacent ave. being sensitive is tough. life is easier with the 'kim-filter' on. certain people know they have to use it when relaying a story. but you can't filter/avoid all unfortunate incidents. either way, i'm sorry, leah. :(

If it makes you feel better, I once ran over a magpie on my bike! It was terrible. I swerved, it swerved in the same direction, and then there was a sickening lurch as my tires ran over it. I screamed, stopped, and tried to suss out the damage. This guy mowing his lawn try to ignore me as I pleaded for a box or something to put it into so it could at least be buried properly. It was a scarring experience. -z.

Vijay and I hit a bird on our way to Victoria, but for some reason we couldn't help but laugh... mostly because we knew it was an omen that the road trip was going to be a dancing with the devil sort of road trip. It was.

Well, guess I won't be seeing you anytime soon, on account of the I'm-still-in-Shanghai and you are moving to Dorando. Well, so long suckers WHO I HAVE ALWAYS HATED. Hahaha... no I'm kidding, you're allright. (Futurama)
